Police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as a military officer and stole a motorbike from a commercial rider at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the suspect, identified only as Roy, was apprehended at Ve-Golokuati after a coordinated police operation following the theft.
The victim, 24-year-old okada rider Manasseh Tomey, recounted that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025. He said the suspect, dressed in military mufti, approached him and requested a ride to buy waakye.
Tomey said he took the man to the Kadjebi Zongo area, where he bought the food, and later to the Wobube Guest House near the Kadjebi Cocoa Market, where the suspect claimed he planned to lodge. The man also asked for Tomey’s phone number, which he provided.
Later that afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., the suspect called Tomey to buy drinking water and shortly after requested to borrow the motorbike briefly to deliver an item to the Okanta Police barrier.
“Trusting him because he looked like a soldier, I gave him the motorbike. But after several attempts to reach him, I realized he had disappeared,” Tomey recounted.
When his calls went unanswered, Tomey went to the Okanta Police barrier, where officers confirmed that no one matching the description of the supposed soldier had passed through. The police subsequently issued an alert across nearby stations.
That evening, around 9:00 p.m., officers at the Ve-Golokuati Police barrier informed Tomey that they had arrested a man matching the suspect’s description. He later identified the suspect as the person who had stolen his motorbike.
Inspector Emmanuel Agbeworley, Station Officer in charge of the Kadjebi Police Station, confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect was transferred to Kadjebi and arraigned before court on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
