The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized the need for a visa-free Africa, citing the benefits of open borders and economic integration.
Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogue (APD) 2026 conference, he stressed that a visa-free Africa would greatly support the continent’s development, drawing from the example of West Africa’s relatively open borders.
“We want one African biometric passport. Let’s build an infrastructure that will enable our youth to trade digitally across borders, have their mobile money operate across borders, and their degrees recognized across the continent,” Ayariga said.
Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, noted that significant progress has been made in West Africa, where many of the facilities are already in place.
He believes that integrating regional facilities across Africa’s various blocks will enable all Africans to enjoy these benefits simultaneously. “I believe the vision that informs this campaign can succeed and will succeed,” he said.
The Majority Leader assured that parliament is ready to pass agreements granting visa-free status to every African, stating, “Our parliament stands ready to walk the talk. We are ready to pass all the agreements needed to grant visa-free status to every African.”
