Kasoa: Newly Acquired Police Armoured Vehicle Damaged in Accident at Akotsi

A newly acquired armoured vehicle belonging to the Central East Regional Police Command has been extensively damaged following an accident at Gomoa Akotsi in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

Information gathered by Nana Ansah indicates that a heavily loaded articulated truck travelling towards Accra overturned after hitting a deep pothole in the middle of the Kasoa–Winneba highway. The truck reportedly lost control and capsized onto the parked police armoured vehicle, causing significant damage.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, as no police officers were inside the armoured vehicle at the time of the incident.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Nana Ansah attributed the accident to the poor condition of the road. They alleged that the contractor handling the Kasoa–Winneba dualisation project has failed to properly reshape the affected stretch, leaving deep potholes that have resulted in frequent accidents.

According to the witnesses, the police patrol team had parked the armoured vehicle at Akotsi as part of their routine duties when the truck, bearing registration number GT 14-U, struck a deep pothole and overturned onto the police vehicle.

Meanwhile, some residents along the stretch have expressed concern about worsening health conditions due to excessive dust. They claimed that the contractor has allegedly failed to water the road for over two months, leading to persistent dust pollution.

Residents further stated that many people in the area are now battling respiratory problems, including asthma, as a result of the dusty conditions.
