Televangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has come to the defense of Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following public backlash over his recent cash gift to her.
The controversy stems from Gyamfi reportedly giving Nana Agradaa $800, which she says was simply to help her purchase fuel. The gesture, however, has sparked criticism, especially in light of the recent launch of former President John Mahama’s Code of Conduct for public appointees—a document that underscores principles of integrity and accountability.
Addressing the issue, Nana Agradaa downplayed the significance of the amount and urged NDC supporters not to take offense. “How much is $800?” she asked rhetorically. “NDC supporters shouldn’t be upset. The Bible says do not covet your neighbour’s blessings. Always tap into others’ blessings.”
She added that the criticism was unwarranted and encouraged party members to focus on spiritual and material growth rather than controversies over minor acts of generosity.
Despite Gyamfi’s public apology and clarification that the money was a personal gift, the incident has led to calls for disciplinary action.
In response, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned Gyamfi to provide a formal explanation regarding the circumstances of the gift.
