Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah, better known as TiC and formerly Tic Tac, a renowned Ghanaian hiplife musician, has opened up about his role in bridging the gap between the Ghanaian and Nigerian music scenes.
In a recent interview on Oyerepa Entertainment Review, TiC boasted of his contributions to the flourishing music collaborations between the two countries, particularly in the realm of hiplife and afrobeat music.
TiC recounted how his collaboration with Nigerian artist Tony Tetuila played a pivotal role in the expansion of cross-border musical partnerships.
He credited their joint project for triggering a wave of Ghana-Nigeria collaborations that would go on to dominate the African music scene.
According to the musician, the song with Tony Tetuila was a game-changer that “blew the whole thing up,” opening doors for other Ghanaian artists to partner with their Nigerian counterparts.
“The collaboration with Tony Tetuila became a force. It blew the whole thing up,” TiC said during the interview.
“It opened the way for others to come through, like VIP with massive hits, Mzbel, ‘You May Kiss Your Bride,’there were songs flying up here and there between Ghana and Nigeria.”
This early collaboration laid the foundation for many successful musical unions between artists from both nations, helping to reshape the dynamics of West African music. The fusion of Ghanaian hiplife and Nigerian afrobeat, often merged into a single sound, became a popular trend, appealing to fans across the continent.
