Kumawood actor Akwasi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, has explained why he was conspicuously absent from the funeral and burial rites of the late Ghanaian industrialist and founder of Kantanka Automobile, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Akrobeto, a known member of the Kristo Asafo Mission, said his decision not to attend was not an indication of disrespect or a change in his relationship with the late engineer. Rather, he claimed he was acting in accordance with instructions Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka had given him before his death.

Speaking at a ceremony organised by Nana Akofena Safo Kantanka, one of the late engineer’s sons, Akrobeto disclosed that Apostle Safo Kantanka had specifically told him that Akofena should take charge of his burial and funeral when he died.

“During the burial, a lot of people called to ask why I didn’t attend because I have been vocal about him. Papa told me that when he was no longer alive, Akofena should bury him and also organise the funeral ceremony,” he said.

According to Akrobeto, he had received guidance from the late engineer while he was alive and therefore considered his instructions important enough to follow even after his death.

He explained that because Nana Akofena was not responsible for organising the funeral ceremony, he chose to stay away rather than go against what he understood to be Apostle Safo Kantanka’s wishes.

“So, if you didn’t see me during the burial, it was because I respected him and decided to go by his wishes. That was why I didn’t attend the burial,” he added.

Akrobeto’s explanation is expected to settle questions surrounding his absence from the funeral, particularly given his longstanding association with the Kristo Asafo movement and his public admiration for the late industrialist.
