The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited Adam Mutawakilu has inaugurated a Task Force to crack down on customers engaging in illegal water connections, citing significant revenue losses and operational challenges.
The Task Force is part of efforts to address the company’s financial struggles, including escalating costs, aging infrastructure, and customer indebtedness. About 78% of revenue losses are attributed to illegal connections, meter bypassing, billing anomalies, and water theft.
“Today is not merely a ceremonial event. It represents a collective resolve to strengthen our finances, protect our infrastructure, and position Ghana Water Limited to deliver better, faster, and more reliable services to the people of Ghana,” the Managing Director said.
With a national shortfall of 130 million gallons a day, effective revenue collection is crucial to bridging the gap between water demand and production capacity.
