The Ghana Wesley United Methodist Church Guild in Brooklyn, New York, visited the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Ghana, and paid the bills for patients who had been discharged but were unable to settle their medical expenses.
The donation, totaling GH₵ 10,926, was presented by the Guild’s treasurer, Alex Acheampong, and Secretary Joyce Osei-Tutu.
Mr. Alex Acheampong, Treasurer of the Brooklyn Methodist Guild and National Guild Vice President, explained that the motivation for the donation was rooted in their Christian faith. He emphasized that helping those in need is a fundamental aspect of their beliefs, citing biblical teachings such as caring for the hungry, the sick, and those in prison.
Mr. Acheampong expressed his conviction that their actions would be blessed by God, who would protect, guide, and multiply their efforts. He also highlighted the challenges faced by many, including financial struggles and urgent bills to pay, dispelling the notion that life abroad is always easy.
During the donation ceremony, Joyce Osei-Tutu emphasized the importance of hard work, diligence, and discipline for Ghanaian youth. She encouraged them to take their work seriously and explore opportunities abroad to gain new experiences and perspectives.
Asamoah Reuben, Principal Nursing Officer at the Holy Family Hospital, expressed gratitude for the donation and highlighted some of the hospital’s challenges, including limited funding and reliance on internally generated funds to pay staff salaries. He appealed for further support from Ghanaians, corporate societies, philanthropists, and individuals.
The Brooklyn Methodist Guild’s donation serves as a call to action for others to get involved in charitable work and support those in need. The hospital’s representatives urged individuals and organizations to consider making donations or providing other forms of support to help address the challenges faced by the hospital and its patients.
