“‘GenZ’ is my conversation with God” – Fameye
Ghanaian singer Peter Famiyeh Bozah, popularly known as Fameye, has offered a deeper explanation of his viral song ‘GenZ’, revealing that the record is essentially a personal dialogue with God rather than merely a commentary on the difficulties of modern life.
Speaking in an interview with broadcaster Kwadwo Asante Enyan, known as Kwadwo Sheldon, Fameye said the song draws heavily from his personal faith, weaknesses and constant search for divine direction.
“It’s a prayer; it’s a very deep and serious prayer. In the song, I said I went to bed last night and I had a conversation with God, and he almost gave up on me because I am stubborn,” he said.
According to Fameye, his understanding of how God responds to prayers was shaped during his childhood, particularly through lessons he received in Sunday school.
“My Sunday school teacher taught me that sometimes God answers yes when I pray, sometimes God answers no when I pray, just because he loves me,” he explained.
The ‘Nothing I Get’ hitmaker said a major lesson embedded in ‘GenZ’ is the need for believers to accept that divine timing may not always correspond with their expectations.
“Sometimes God will say no to my prayer, but when he says no, I will not understand him. Instead of me calming down and waiting on him, I am in a haste,” Fameye added.
He illustrated the point with the example of someone receiving an expensive car without having the financial capacity or maturity to maintain it.
“If you don’t have money to maintain yourself and God gives you a Lamborghini, it’s a problem for you because you’re not ready for it. So when he gives you a Honda, you accept it, do you understand?” he said.
Fameye also defended the song’s references to smoking, nightlife and other social realities, arguing that he intentionally incorporated such issues to make the record honest and relatable.
“People are even saying, ‘Why did you talk about smoking?’ But that’s the reality. People are smoking; if I don’t say it, who will? Who will address these issues?” he asked.
His explanation gives ‘GenZ’ a more personal dimension, presenting the song as an honest reflection of Fameye’s faith, struggles, impatience and desire to remain connected to God despite his imperfections.
