We don’t Endorse Misconduct; Allow Police To Do Independent Job – NDC Clarifies Position On Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Issue
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has addressed the media regarding the issue involving the Headmaster of Obuasi Secondary Technical School.
Reacting to the matter, Mr. Kwetey said the party had earlier issued a statement asking the individual involved to withdraw from the race, which was followed by his withdrawal.
“We want to reassert as a party that we do not endorse any such conduct. We want law enforcement to do an independent job,” he stated.
Speaking at a press briefing, the General Secretary assured the public that the party will not interfere in the process.
“We assure the world that this party will not in any way interfere. We want the truth to be brought out and on the back of that truth, the country will have clear assurance that as a party and as a government, we do not cover anybody,” he said.
“If he is found guilty, he will pay the highest price. If he is not guilty, we will be happy for him. So we want law enforcement to do its own job,” Mr. Kwetey added.
Addressing concerns about why the party initially called for his withdrawal and later appeared to offer him an opportunity based on the presumption of innocence, Mr. Kwetey clarified:
“Some have expressed worry about why the party initially said he needed to withdraw and then subsequently said we wanted to give him an opportunity since he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Let me just say it is simple. The party, unfortunately, did not have access to what you call Manasseh’s comprehensive disclosure as of Monday when we had that meeting.”
