Gender Minister pledges stronger security at Health facilities after baby theft at Mamprobi Polyclinic
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured the public that steps will be taken to strengthen security systems at health facilities following the reported theft of a baby at Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra.
She said the Ministry would collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health to review and enhance existing safety measures to prevent a recurrence.
“We are going to work with the Ministry of Health to ensure that the systems and structures we have in place are secure enough for patients and health workers,” she stated, stressing the importance of improved safeguards.
The infant, who was reportedly taken from the facility on February 18 in the Ablekuma South Constituency, has since been safely recovered after a swift operation by the Ghana Police Service. A female suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Police acted promptly after hospital authorities and the child’s family reported the incident. A search operation was immediately launched, leading to the successful rescue of the baby. Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect as investigations continue.
Officials say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the suspect allegedly gained access to the child.
The Minister reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen security protocols and ensure the protection of vulnerable patients across the country.
