Founding Member of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Mr Kwabena Sarpong says, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Atwi Bosiako aka Wontumi must be arrested for doing galamsey.
Chairman Wontumi has been accused of using his Akonta Mining Company for galamsey operation in the Tano Nimiri Forest.
Despite President Akufo-Addo’s vow to deal with persons within his government who may be found complicit in illegal mining activities, Wontumi is yet to be apprehended.
In an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson, on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Mr Kwabena Sarpong says, “Chairman Wontumi is doing galamsey big time.” He, then added that he is surprised Chairman Wontumi is walking freely and has not been arrested.”
According to him, “Chairman Wontumi has registered Akonta Mining Company, but his company is mining outside the lane given to him and he needs to be dealt with”.
He said the President must arrest Wontumi as soon as possible if he (Akufo-Addo) is very serious in the fight against galamsey
Kwabena Sarpong said, if Wontum is left to go free without prosecution, it could create chaos in the country and “If we allow Chairman Wontumi to succeed then we are creating chaos in this country.” Kwabena Sarpong boldly stated.
