The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has assured the public that all its medical facilities remain fully operational, despite the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
In a statement released by its Department of Public Relations, GAF emphasized that it has mobilized medical personnel across its facilities to ensure continued healthcare delivery during the strike.
As part of the response, the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital, which was originally reserved for military personnel, has now been opened to the general public for emergency and critical care services.
In addition, GAF is setting up a field hospital at the 37 Military Hospital in collaboration with the African Rapid Response Partnership. The temporary facility, designed to manage overflow cases, is expected to be fully operational by June 13, 2025.
Despite ongoing fumigation activities, the Emergency Unit at the 37 Military Hospital remains functional. An alternative emergency care centre has also been activated at the Junior Ranks’ Medical Center to ensure no disruption in emergency services.
To further support the national response, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Ayamdo, has ordered the deployment of additional military medical personnel to selected public hospitals across the country to assist in emergency care during the strike.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to delivering continuous, high-quality healthcare and urged the public to stay calm as measures are in place to address medical needs without interruption.
