The Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) has raised concerns about the impact of excessive government spending on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy on basic education in Ghana.
According to recent surveys, the disproportionate allocation of funds to the SHS policy is negatively affecting the basic education system.
Dr. Kojo Asante, Director of Policy Engagement and Partnership at CDD-Ghana, emphasized the need for reforms to reduce spending on the Free SHS policy.
Speaking at a multi-stakeholder engagement meeting, he noted that basic education is crucial for the country’s future and that neglecting it will have long-term consequences.
Dr. Asante suggested that the government should prioritize investing in the basic education system, particularly in infrastructure, to ensure a brighter future for Ghana’s education sector.
Dr. Kojo Asante stressed that the next generation will bear the cost of neglecting basic education if reforms are not implemented.
