A tragic accident at the Asukawkaw Bridge in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti region has claimed the lives of four people and left many injured.
It occurred on Tuesday in a head-on collision, involving an Urvan and a Toyota vehicle belonging to the Ghana Statistical Service(GSS).
Rescue teams arrived promptly at the scene and managed to extricate those trapped in the wreckage.
The Urvan driver and three passengers were pronounced dead on the spot while the injured were rushed to Worawora government hospital for treatment.
The collision happened around 4pm when the Urvan bus with registration number VR 156-12 was transporting passengers from the Dambai market to Akatsi .
The GSS vehicle with registration number GV 371-23 traveling in the opposite direction towards Bimbila.
Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP) Kennedy Frimpong at Katanga confirmed the incident to Adom News.
ASP Frimpong said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The Asukawkaw Bridge, a vital route for many commuters, has been the site of previous accidents, raising concerns about the road.
In an interview with Adom News’ Obrempongba Owusu, residents and commuters called on authorities to enhance safety features on the bridge but there has been no action.
Drivers are therefore urged to exercise caution, especially when approaching the bridgeide to prevent such tragedies.
