Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, former president of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and board chairman of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), has urged journalists to be meticulous in their reporting on the energy sector.
He emphasized the importance of understanding the sector, its stakeholders, and verifying information to avoid chaos.
Former GJA president and diplomat Amb. Kabral Blay advised journalists to engage with experts, fact-check, and cross-check information, rather than relying on politicians or bloggers.
Addressing participants at a media training on the energy sector organized by Energy News Africa Ltd in Accra, Ambassador Kabral Blay emphasized the energy sector is sensitive, with many false narratives surrounding it.
“As independent reporters, journalists have a crucial role in holding everyone accountable and keeping the public informed”, he added.
Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere has sounded a warning about the plethora of false information surrounding Ghana’s energy sector. According to him, it is the responsibility of journalists to keep the public informed and counter these narratives.
“I am not a prophet like those who have been making profits, but I can tell that looking at the energy sector, it is one area where this nation has a lot of problems,” Ambassador Amihere noted.
Amihere’s comments come from his experience in the energy sector and his concern about the impact of inaccurate reporting on the nation.
He encouraged journalists to be thorough in their reporting, ensuring that they provide accurate and reliable information to the public.
