Discussing marriage is quite a delicate issue, but with the right registry measures put in place, the delicate nature of it lessens.
Per the marriage Registry Unit of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly married couples in Ghana do well to verify their marriage certificates given to them during the ceremony.
Speaking with Wofa Atta Frimpong on Oyerepa Breakfast Show on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, Mrs. Afi Agbeko, with the Marriage Registry Unit of KMA, indicated that everything is on course at the Marriage Registry of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (K. M. A.), even after the President easing restrictions due to COVID-19.
“It is still our corporate social responsibility as KMA Registry Unit to ensure every marriage is registered officially with government, ” Mrs. Agbeko reemohasized.
She reiterated that marriage starts from the home, hence the two families agreeing with each other. “It is only in the case of a pending marriage by one of the partners, which has not been cancelled, that can change the purpose of marriage. Nothing prevents two partners from marrying, ” the KMA Registry official stated.
Mrs Afi Agbeko educated that every certificate given by pastors who lead a marriage ceremony is verified & legitimate, by sending records of the certificate to the Registry.
She further informed, “If the certificate is not legitimate, we will collect details and keep records at our office.”
Mrs. Agbeko added that every church has it’s file, hence records kept according to denominations.
She called on & advised partners preparing/ about to get married, or verify as to the legitimacy of marriage certificate to call 0541 003 634 to seek further clarity.
The Marriage Registry expert stated that it is the family that superintend divorce, marriage and everything related to the union.
