The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to upgrade Ghana’s international travel documents to enhance their global recognition and compliance with international standards.
In a statement shared via the official Facebook page of DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the Authority said the upgrade seeks to address the occasional rejection of Ghanaian International Driver’s Licences (IDLs) and International Vehicle Permits (IVPs) in some foreign countries.
The new initiative will introduce a Biometric International Driver’s Licence and a Biometric International Vehicle Permit, both featuring bio-data pages designed in line with International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) specifications.
According to the DVLA, the move forms part of a broader strategy to establish a modern, secure, and globally verifiable system for Ghanaian drivers and vehicles operating abroad.
The Authority added that the issuance of the new biometric documents will commence at all DVLA offices across the country beginning in 2026.
