A major controversy has erupted within the Bawumia campaign after Hon. Dominic Bingab Aduna Nitiwul, former Defence Minister and a key campaign member, was allegedly caught on video making tribal comments targeting Konkomba delegates in Bimbilla.
Mr Nitiwul allegedly told the delegates that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong “does not like them” and urged them to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claiming that Konkombas nationwide were already backing him.
The remarks have sparked widespread outrage, with many party members describing them as reckless and unnecessary. Critics argue that Nitiwul’s comments are divisive and undermine party unity, and that delegates should be engaged with policy ideas and competence rather than fear or ethnic labels.
Insiders say concerns about tribal undertones in the Bawumia campaign have been growing, and this incident has brought them to the forefront. Party members are calling for leadership to intervene and address the issue to prevent further damage.
Observers warn that if such rhetoric continues, it could harm relationships in key constituencies and distract from the real issues affecting delegates and the grassroots ahead of the January 2026 primaries.
