Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has questioned President Nana Addo’s efficiency in estimating distances in terms of quantifying the quantum of roads constructed in Ghana.
According to Mr Nketia, if the President were well versed in civil works, he would have known that 1000 km of road is no mean feat.
Mr Asiedu Nketia was reacting to claims by President Akufo-Addo, during his State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Wednesday, 30 March 2022 that his administration has built over 11,000 km of new roads across the country, which, in his view, was unprecedented in Ghana’s history.
The NDC leader, however, said: “I am sure the President was teasing himself about his government’s inability to build roads in the country”.
He reminded the President that 5,000 km of road is equal to the distance travelled between Accra and London by air.
“The engineers in the New Patriotic Party must teach the President to appreciate what the state of 1000 km of road is”, Mr Nketia said, adding that such a stretch is not something that can be hidden.
According to Mr Nketia, the government is on record to have borrowed over GHS300 billion and yet has nothing to show for it in terms of infrastructure.
He said even the Tamale interchange in the Northern region that was inaugurated on Tuesday, 29 March 2022 by the president is being constructed in phases and not fully completed.
“This government is on record to have declared years of roads since 2019 and Ghanaians are still complaining about the state of their bad roads,” he noted.
He bemoaned that it is under this administration that contractors, who are stakeholders in the built environment, have not been paid for several years.
