Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has issued a firm warning against fraudulent recruitment activities, stressing that all enlistments into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) under the current administration will be strictly merit-based.
His remarks follow rising concerns over recruitment scams and allegations of favoritism, issues that have historically undermined confidence in the military’s recruitment process.
Addressing the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 19, 2025, Dr. Boamah made it clear that neither the Ministry of Defence nor the Ghana Armed Forces has authorized any individual or organisation to conduct recruitment on its behalf.
“Let me sound this warning: the GAF has not contracted any person or institution to undertake any recruitment exercise on its behalf,” the Minister stated firmly.
He noted that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Armed Forces, is upgrading the official recruitment and enlistment portal ahead of the next recruitment cycle, which is scheduled to open in August.
Dr. Boamah reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to integrity and professionalism, declaring, “Everyone must understand that recruitment under President Mahama’s government will be based on merit, not money.”
He urged the public to stay alert and avoid falling victim to scammers, advising prospective applicants to rely solely on official Ministry of Defence and Ghana Armed Forces communication channels for accurate information.
