The District Chief Executive for Asene Manso Akroso in the Eastern Region, Eric Ahinakwa, has appealed to investors to channel more resources into the agricultural sector to help increase food production for local consumption and export.
Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration, the DCE noted that many people wrongly assume farming is for the uneducated. He stressed that agriculture, when done professionally, is a lucrative venture capable of raising incomes, improving food security, creating jobs, and driving sustainable local economic development.
Hon. Ahinakwa encouraged residents to consider farming as a viable and profitable career and urged farmers in the district to scale up production to maximise their earnings.
Board Director of the Ghana Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (GIRSAL), Mrs. Tina Effa Boadi, described agriculture as not just the backbone of Asene Manso Akroso but also part of its heritage and identity. She applauded farmers for their commitment and urged them to maintain their dedication for the benefit of both the district and the nation.
Mrs. Boadi highlighted the district’s fertile lands and hardworking population but emphasised the need to adopt modern technology, climate-smart practices, improved extension services, and stronger youth and women participation in agriculture. According to her, agriculture is a noble profession and not a “poor man’s job,” adding that the country’s future depends heavily on farmers.
She also pledged financial support for farmers and encouraged those in need to contact her office.
The Best Farmer for Asene Manso Akroso District, Nana, stated that farming does not require formal education to be successful. He described it as a dignified occupation that provides both food and income. He urged the public to embrace farming and appealed to the government to supply machinery and drill boreholes to support farming activities.
