The President of the republic in his 6th National address on COVID-19 and measures to combat it stated a stimulus package, by way of subsidies for every Ghanaian who consumes electricity/ energy for the 3 months.
According to the Communication Manager for the Electricity Company of Ghana, the awaited package will kickstart God willing, tomorrow May 1, 2020.
In an interview with Nana Kojo Jantuah, Mr. Erasmus Okyere Baidoo, indicated that the package actually starts tomorrow, as today is the last day in April.
He further added that the package will be ending in July, as it starts tomorrow, Friday, May 1, 2020
He mentioned that everyone who has a meter is entitled to this stimulus package by the government.
He talked about the first group being those who use Postpaid, of which the calculations will come with the bills one would have paid, and this will be the formality for the next three months.
He said, “We are using March consumption as yardstick throughout to come up with the stimulus package for the next three months.”
He educated that the amount of energy one consumed in March, if high, will be used as a yardstick to come up with the 50% subsidy and the rest.
