National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured party supporters that reforming state institutions under an NDC government will not involve a blanket removal of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members from public office.
Addressing the party’s base, Asiedu Nketia explained that under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, the NDC is committed to serving the broader interests of the Ghanaian people, rather than engaging in political witch-hunts.
He stressed that public appointments would be based on competence and merit, not partisan loyalty.
He took a swipe at the NPP, accusing the party of dismissing capable individuals simply due to their association with the NDC—a move he said led to inefficiency and poor governance as unqualified individuals were appointed in their place.
Asiedu Nketia further noted that not all NPP-affiliated civil servants have been involved in corruption or misconduct, and those who are competent and dedicated to national development should be allowed to continue serving the country.
“Clean up does not mean removing NPP members and replacing them with NDC members. That is how some people think because the NPP did that when they got power. That is not what we are about to do. We are here to represent the interests of the country. So if there is someone who has committed crimes, their sins will catch up on them,” he said.
“For governance, we are all looking at meritocracy. People who can do the job and do it well. I’ve been in government before, and when another government came and swept all of us, that did not help us or the country, so as a country, we need to learn lessons from the past,” he said on Accra FM.
