Central Region: Man beaten to pulp at Kasoa

A man believed to be in his late 20s has sustained injuries following an assault at Kasoa near the overpass in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

According to reports, the victim was allegedly under the influence of drugs and began behaving erratically in the area, which led to an altercation with some individuals who reportedly assaulted him.

Eyewitnesses further indicated that the man later wandered into the Central Business District, where his unusual behaviour resulted in him being knocked down by a vehicle. He sustained injuries and was subsequently attended to by bystanders.

Meanwhile, traders, particularly women operating in the Kasoa Old Market, have raised serious concerns about rising criminal activities within the Central Business District. They attributed the situation to the growing presence of so-called “ghetto boys and girls” who, according to them, loiter around the market and engage in drug abuse.

The traders alleged that members of the group are involved in activities such as pickpocketing and other forms of petty crime, creating fear and insecurity among both traders and shoppers.

They described the situation as worsening, noting that the camp where these individuals congregate is increasingly attracting young people involved in drug use and criminal behaviour.

The market women are therefore appealing to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Seth Sabah Serwornoo Banini, as well as security agencies and other relevant authorities, to urgently intervene and restore safety and order within the market area.

They believe decisive action will help curb crime and protect livelihoods in the Central Business District.
