C/R: President, IGP Urged to Intervene in Awutu Mankessim Chieftaincy Dispute to Avert Possible Clashes
The elders of the Nai Kwao Otuo Twidan Royal Family of Awutu Mankessim in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region are appealing to President Mahama, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the national security agencies to intervene in an escalating chieftaincy dispute to prevent potential violence.
Awutu Mankessim, a community of over 1,000 residents, is currently engulfed in tension following a disagreement between two factions of the same royal family over the rightful successor to the stool.
Speaking at a press conference, family elder Samuel Nai Bransford Okai accused the Queen Mother, Naakye Dede Amoakwa I, of attempting to install her own son as chief, despite claims that he is not the legitimate heir to the late Nai Kwao Otuo V.
He called on the police and relevant authorities to intervene and prevent the installation ceremony from escalating into clashes, thereby maintaining peace in the community.
Meanwhile, other traditional leaders of the Nai Kwao Otuo Twidan Royal Family have similarly appealed to the President, the IGP, and security agencies to restrain the Queen Mother. They insist they will not accept the installation of someone they believe is not the rightful successor to the Awutu Mankessim stool.
