A 25-year-old excavator driver, Gausu Yusif, has been shot dead, while his friend Charles Essuman is in critical condition, battling for his life after unknown gunmen opened fire on them while they were grading land to pave the way into Awutu Kwame Whettey ForestThe unfortunate incident occurred at Awutu Kwame Whettey in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
Information gathered by Nana Ansah indicates that the deceased and his friend were assigned to clear the area in the forest to take rock samples for stone quarry purposes.
The Awutu Bereku District Police stated that the driver and his friend were operating the excavator when the unknown men opened fire on them.
In an interview with Nana Ansah, Awutu Bereku District Commander Superintendent Edmond Nyamekye confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the assailants.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Awutu Aberful, Nai Kojo Nam-Quaye, who handed over the site to Chinese investors, appealed to the IGP to investigate the matter thoroughly and arrest the killers.
