Tension arose at the Awutu Bawjiase police station after a group of Asafo from Ofankor stormed the station, demanding the release of four soldiers and two national security operatives who were arrested by the police following the illegal installation of a chief at Kwashie Abbey.
The aggrieved Asafo group stormed the police station, demanding the release of the four soldiers and two national security officers arrested by the police in an attempt to install a new chief at the Awutu Kwashie Abbey community.
According to the report, the soldiers and some national security operatives were picked up by the police after allegedly attempting to install a new chief in the community, despite the community already having a recognized traditional leader with the stool name Nai Kwashie Abbey VII, known in private life as Michael Larbi.
The Asafo members who stormed the police station demanded the release of the soldiers and the national security operatives, but the police officers did not grant them that request.
The military police, with a vehicle registration number 52 GA 62, along with other officers, rescued the officers to Accra for further interrogation.
The leader of the Kasoa Ofankor Asafo group, Asafo Supi Nipa Nka, warned the military to desist from involving themselves in chieftaincy issues, stressing that such actions could spark unnecessary conflict within the community.
