Prof Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, the Head of History and Political Studies at KNUST has outlined strategies for Dr Bawumia must use to win the hearts of Ghanaian voters in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The current Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government has faced severe criticism for its mismanagement of the country’s economy and the resulting hardships faced by Ghanaians.

Despite this criticism, the NPP remains confident that they can secure victory in the next election with Dr Bawumia as their new presidential candidate.

However, Prof Adu-Gyamfi acknowledges that breaking the eight-year cycle of political power is a challenging task for the NPP.

During an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Prof Adu-Gyamfi suggested that if Dr Bawumia wants to lead the NPP to victory, he should openly criticize and distance himself from the current administration led by Nana Addo.

According to him, Dr Bawumia should start making negative statements about his own government. By doing so he can create a divergency between himself and the Akufo-Addo government, thereby winning the support of Ghanaian voters in 2024.

“Bawumia must let Akufo-Addo feel bad about his own government. If possible he should stop talking to him and do his own politics for Ghanaians to know the Bawumia he was, the Bawumia he is,” Prof Adu-Gyamfi stated.

The KNUST Lecturer further said, 2024 won’t be easy for Bawumia because NDC will not give him an easy task. Therefore he has a responsibility to show that, he is different from Akufo-Addo.

“Everybody is saying Akufo-Addo is the worst president ever and the reality of the matter is that the Vice President should be the best person to give us a negative testament of his own president. He should put Ghana first and he would be able to substantiate himself from the ills of the current NPP government.”

Prof Adu-Gyamfi said if Bawumia is able to do all that he has advised, the NPP under his lead will be able to pull the 2024 polls into a run-off and hence win the elections.
