Member of Parliament (MB) for Effiduase-Asokore in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Ayew Afriye, has made a bold statement regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent political challenges, attributing them to the poor governance record of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Kwesi Parker Wilson, Dr. Ayew Afriye described Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 election defeat as a reflection of public dissatisfaction with the Akufo-Addo ill administration.
“Bawumia has been punished by the ills of Akufo-Addo. Our loss is a referendum against the leadership of the Akufo-Addo government,” Dr. Ayew Afriye stated, pointing to the former President’s poor governance as a key factor in Dr. Bawumia’s electoral misfortunes.
He further emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s long-standing service to Akufo-Addo has reached its conclusion.
“Bawumia has served Akufo-Addo for 16 years and it’s over now,” the MP asserted, suggesting that the Vice President’s political journey under Akufo-Addo’s leadership has come to a natural end.
Dr. Ayew Afriye’s remarks also addressed speculation about a possible rift between Dr. Bawumia and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Responding to claims that Dr. Bawumia is no longer on good terms with the former President due to concerns about how Akufo-Addo’s governance may have contributed to his “abysmal loss,” the MP noted the complexities of their relationship. However, he refrained from confirming or denying the specifics of these claims.
