Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr PV Jantuah Dadason Boateng has described Vice President Dr Bawumia and government as “reckless people” wasting the country’s resources.

Mr PV Jantuah also accused Mr Bowumia of deceiving the people of the North on government policy that did not yield better result for the northern part of the country.

Vice President Dr Bawumia in an interview on Accra based Peace FM while speaking on the Pawlugu dam projects said “The most important irrigation project that we have put in place is the Pwalugu dam. This is the one that is almost a billion dollars and it is going to provide irrigation to at least 24,000 hectares [of farm land.

Currently, Ghana has a public irrigable land of 13,000 hectares. So Pawlugu is going to double what we have in addition to the flood control and electricity. It is the biggest investment that any government has done in Northern Region since independence.”

However, speaking on Trinity TV in a discussion monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Mr PV Jantuah chided the Vice presidents saying he is ‘reckless’.

“Dr Bawumia told us the biggest investment any government has done in the North was the Pwalugu multi-purpose dam which costs 1 billion dollars; go and check its current state, these reckless people.” Mr PV Jantuah said this on Trinity TV show “Akosisen” hosted by Nana Adusi Poku.

“Look, we have taken almost 21 billion COVID money recklessly, this government has wasted all the money”, he said adding that “they rented a house somewhere to rehabilitate it and not even a single patient was admitted there”.
Speaking on the $ 81 million vaccines saga, Mr PV Jantuah exclaimed that, another COVID money was used to purchase COVID vaccines and the vaccines never came. At the time they purchase, there were other vaccines that were expiring.

What the Pawluwu Multi – Purpose Dam Comprised of?

The project comprises the construction of a dam with an elevation of 165 metres near the Pwalugu Bridge on the White Volta River, with a maximum reservoir area of 350 square kilometres.

It will also have a powerhouse with two turbines that have 60 megawatts (MW) installed capacity and 16.5MW of firm continuous capacity.

There is also an irrigation scheme consisting of a 12-metre high weir and canal network (main, primary, secondary and tertiary canals) for about 25,000 hectares of land.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the dam on November 29, 2019, at Pwalugu in the Talensi District in the Upper East Region.
