Veteran highlife musician Kwaisey Pee has offered frank advice to young creatives, drawing on his 25 years of experience in the music industry.
He emphasised that talent alone is not enough to survive, stressing the importance of strategic relationships, emotional intelligence, and understanding industry dynamics.
Speaking in an interview on Max TV, Kwaisey Pee cautioned young artists against openly confronting powerful figures in the industry, describing it as a common mistake that can derail promising careers.
“If you want to survive, avoid offending the industry cartels. Once you do, you risk being sidelined,” he said.
According to him, many gifted artistes have seen their careers stall after unknowingly crossing influential gatekeepers who control opportunities, airplay, and visibility.
Kwaisey Pee noted that the music industry is not always fair or merit-based, urging emerging artistes to first study and understand the system before attempting to challenge it.
“Sometimes, you have to fake it to make it,” he added, stressing that longevity in the industry requires patience, diplomacy, and knowing when to speak and when to stay silent.
