A Warrant Officer Class II of the Ghana Armed Forces has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sell firearms to a civilian.
The suspect, identified as W.O. II David Kofi Brew of the 4th Battalion in Kumasi, was apprehended on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station. The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti South Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), headed by Regional Director ASP Princeton Peasah Darkwa. Brew was reportedly attempting to sell guns to an undercover police officer at the time of his arrest.
According to the Ashanti South PID, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks supplying firearms to criminal elements in Obuasi and surrounding communities. Preliminary intelligence suggested Brew’s involvement in the illicit sale of weapons.

Police reports indicate that on December 15, 2025, Brew engaged with an undercover operative and arrived in a military vehicle (registration 54 GA 92). He allegedly offered to supply M16 rifles, G3s, pistols, and other firearms, quoting GHC 80,000 for an M16 rifle.
The following day, Brew contacted the undercover agent to arrange pickup of the firearms. He was arrested at the scene while attempting to hand over the weapons. Recovered items included a TMM 22 assault rifle loaded with 99 rounds of ammunition and two 12-round magazines, as well as an Ash Taurus GX2 pistol with 100 rounds of ammunition and three 12-round magazines.
During interrogation, Brew reportedly admitted to selling weapons to individuals in and around Obuasi. He is currently in police custody pending further action and official notification to his superiors. Authorities are also working to apprehend his accomplices for appropriate action.
