The Public Relations Officer (P. R. O.) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (K. A. T. H.) has stated that the utmost burden of the Hospital this period of COVID-19 is the Cost of Operating the Hospital.
As it stands now, the Hospital is faced with much pressure of people patronising health services from them on the regular, or due to the period, the world finds itself and therefore COVID-19 leading increased expenses of the institution for Personal Protective Equipment (P. P. E.).
In an interview with Nana Jantuah on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Mr. Kwame Frimpong, PRO – KATH, touched on the President of the Republic’s recent visit to the Hospital saying it is one of the long-overdue projects on the records of the Ministry of Health’s (M. O. H.) list of projects.
He divulged that over €150 Million will be used to complete the project at this stage, per what the President of the Republic said.
Mr. Frimpong indicated that bidding tender was put forward and CONTRACTA won and so then they are continuing with the long-abandoned project. He again revealed that since 2009, per the Consultant’s report to the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, no payment had been made to ensure the continuation of the project.
The PRO further disclosed, “This is the first time money has been set aside to complete a project, not like the others the contractor has to use his/ her money to finance the project to some extent before financed by government…We as a Hospital cannot ask the contractor to do anything, nor alter a part of the project unless through the Health Ministry.”
“According to the Ministry of Health’s agreement with the Old contractor, a 2 weeks ultimatum to leave the site so MOH hands over the project to the new contractor, ” Mr. Frimpong disclosed to Nana Jantuah on Oyerepa F. M.
On COVID-19, He talked about the cost of operation of the KATH being a burden, “In terms of the clinical aspect, we do have specialists and others available to address and battle diseases, the cost of patronising the Hospital remains the same and that is the burden now.”
