The National Election Security Taskforce, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, met with the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) on Monday, November 26, to assess their collaboration and plan for the upcoming elections.
The EC has found the collaboration to be effective, particularly in providing protection services for the recent distribution of voter registers to all 276 constituencies.
Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chair of the Electoral Commission, praised the collaboration as “fruitful” and thanked the IGP and his team for their excellent work.
She assured the security taskforce that the Commission would ensure transparent, fair, and peaceful elections this year. The EC has also trained 210,000 personnel to be deployed across all constituencies for the elections.
Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), announced that Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) have been distributed to 8 regions in Ghana.
These devices will be stored in police armories for safekeeping. This move is part of the EC’s efforts to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, IGP and Chair of the National Security Taskforce, emphasized their sole responsibility to ensure peace, security, law, and order during the election period.
He commended the EC for their cooperation and partnership, adding that they are ready to protect Ghanaians and maintain peace before, during, and after the election.
The IGP also commended Ghanaians, especially political parties, for their cooperation and calm so far, urging them to continue promoting peace to ensure a peaceful post-election period.
With continued cooperation with the EC, the IGP believes the journey ahead will be smoother than before, reminding Ghanaians that maintaining peace is crucial since Ghana is their only country.
