NDC Constituency Elections Slated for Saturday; Aspirants Urged to Comply with Security Directives
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its constituency elections this Saturday across the country, with the party leadership urging all aspirants to comply with lawful security measures and vowing to deal decisively with anyone who destroys party property.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the polls, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the party’s Elections Directorate has been working with all relevant structures to facilitate the organization of the conferences, while the Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct and supervise the electoral processes with support from the respective Constituency Election Committees.
“We expect every constituency to adhere strictly to the approved timetable, applicable procedures, and instructions issued by the authorized electoral bodies. We further expect all committees and aspirants to cooperate fully with officials responsible for administering the elections,” he stated.
Mr. Kwetey explained that the upcoming elections are the culmination of deliberate organizational activities undertaken to strengthen the party’s structures and renew its grassroots leadership.
According to him, the process began with the opening of membership registration to admit new members, followed by the revision and validation of the membership register to allow members to verify their records and ensure the integrity of the party’s database.
He said the party subsequently organized elections for branch executives across its over 40,600 branches nationwide, which form the foundation of the party and provide the essential link between the national leadership and the grassroots.
“Following these exercises, the party opened nominations for qualified and interested members seeking to contest constituency executive positions in all 276 constituencies across the 16 regions. The constituency elections are therefore a continuation of our broader efforts to consolidate our structures, renew our leadership and strengthen our readiness for the political responsibilities ahead,” he noted.
On nomination statistics, Mr. Kwetey disclosed that a total of 16,468 active applications were recorded for constituency-level executive positions across the 276 constituencies.
Out of this number, 15,049 applications were fully submitted, representing approximately 91.4%, while 1,419 applications remain in draft form, representing 8.6%. He added that 370 records were identified as incomplete and require attention. Female applicants accounted for 16% of the total.
He described the figures as an indication of considerable interest in constituency-level leadership and the party’s organizational vitality.
On the schedule, Mr. Kwetey announced that elections will be held in 265 constituencies, representing about 96%, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, while the remaining 11 constituencies, representing 4%, will hold theirs on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
He said the arrangement will ensure the completion of the exercise within the approved two-day period.
