“Stonebwoy contributed to buying my first car” – Kobby Kyei
Ghanaian content creator Kobby Kyei has recounted how dancehall star Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, unexpectedly helped him acquire his first car.
Kobby Kyei said the two first connected during the production of one of Stonebwoy’s music videos, where he had gone to capture behind-the-scenes footage. According to him, Stonebwoy expressed admiration for his work and encouraged him to remain committed to his craft.
“I met Stonebwoy during a shoot of a music video. I went to shoot a behind-the-scenes. So, after the shooting of the music video, we were all chatting, and he was even talking to those around him about how he loved my content. He said I would go far in what I was doing. We exchanged numbers, and when I got home, I texted him,” he said.
The content creator said their relationship later took an unexpected turn when he told Stonebwoy about his plans to travel to deprived communities and support people in need. He explained that his biggest challenge at the time was the lack of a vehicle for the initiative.
Kobby Kyei revealed that Stonebwoy subsequently asked for his mobile money number during a phone conversation and sent him money towards purchasing a car.
“When I was chatting with him, I told him my plan of going to the villages to help the deprived people, but I didn’t have a car. He called me on the phone, and that was the longest time I had spoken with him on the phone. During the conversation, he asked for my mobile money number. Before the call ended, he asked me to check my wallet; he had sent me money to buy my first car. He was like, ‘That is a contribution.’ So, Stonebwoy contributed to buying my first car,” he added.
Kobby Kyei’s revelation highlights a lesser-known side of Stonebwoy, whose career has been marked not only by his music but also by various philanthropic and community-focused initiatives.
For Kobby Kyei, the gesture became a significant boost to his efforts to reach and support underserved communities, while also marking a memorable milestone in his personal journey.
