High Court dismisses Abu Trica’s bid to stop US extradition

The Accra High Court has dismissed an application by Ghanaian socialite Fredrick Kum, popularly known as Abu Trica, seeking to halt his extradition to the United States.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the court rejected his application for certiorari, clearing the way for Ghanaian authorities to proceed with his extradition.

Abu Trica’s legal team had filed the application on May 19, 2026, asking the High Court to quash a decision by the Gbese District Court, which authorised his extradition to face criminal proceedings in the United States.

With the application dismissed, the earlier extradition order remains in force, paving the way for his transfer to US authorities.

The United States is seeking Abu Trica’s extradition over allegations of financial crimes, including wire fraud and money laundering.

According to US authorities, he is linked to an alleged romance fraud syndicate accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than US$8 million.

The case has attracted significant public attention in both Ghana and the United States due to the scale of the alleged fraud and the high-profile nature of the extradition proceedings.
