KASOA: Two Arrested, one on the run over online vehicle sale fraud
The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged online vehicle sale fraud syndicate that reportedly defrauded a victim of GH¢100,323.
The suspects, identified as Chidubem Oba Precious, 31, and Ama Mankye, 28, were arrested on June 12, 2026, following investigations into a fraudulent online vehicle sale scheme advertised on a social media platform.
According to the police, the case was reported to the Kasoa District Police Command on February 10, 2026.
Investigations revealed that the complainant responded to an advertisement on TikTok offering a Jetour Hybrid vehicle for sale at a price of US$8,800. The vehicle was advertised under the name of a company identified as Shipper China Qinghai Hongmeng Automobile Sale.
Police disclosed that the victim made payments totaling GH¢100,323 into separate bank accounts belonging to Ama Mankye and another suspect, Theresa Ziam, on December 9 and December 18, 2025.
The victim was subsequently issued a bill of lading, which was later discovered to be fraudulent.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Chidubem Oba Precious at Adawukwa, near Bawjiase in the Central Region.
A search conducted at his residence reportedly uncovered an ATM card and a mobile SIM card registered in the name of Ama Mankye, as well as a payment receipt from the complainant.
Police later arrested Ama Mankye at Agbogba in the Greater Accra Region.
Investigators established that she had intentionally opened a bank account to facilitate the transfer of funds from the complainant to Chidubem Oba Precious. She allegedly received GH¢1,000 for her role in the transaction.
The suspects were arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on June 15, 2026.
Chidubem Oba Precious was remanded into police custody, while Ama Mankye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢700,000 with one surety, who must provide justified landed property.
The two are expected to reappear before the court on June 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend Theresa Ziam, who remains at large.
