Residents of Brofoyedu in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Greater Kumasi Metropolis have been without a reliable water supply for nearly two years following damage to key pipelines during road construction works.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Michael Kwabena Boateng, has expressed deep concern over the situation, describing it as a major challenge affecting daily life in the community.
“Our major challenge right now is water. We don’t have water in this community. For about one and a half years now, we have not had adequate water supply,” he said.
According to him, the problem began when contractors working on the Kokoben–Anwia Nkwanta Highway project allegedly destroyed several water pipelines.
He further claimed that workers of Kofi Job Construction removed pipes belonging to the Ghana Water Company that previously supplied water to the community.
“Since the Kokoben to Anwia Nkwanta road project was awarded to Kofi Job, his workers removed all the Ghana Water Company pipes that supplied water to my community, and since then, we have not had water,” he stated.
Mr. Boateng indicated that despite several efforts to engage the Ghana Water Company and other relevant authorities, the issue remains unresolved.
“I have gone to the authorities of the Ghana Water Company and other relevant bodies, yet the issue remains unsolved,” he added.
Residents continue to struggle to access clean and consistent water, forcing many to rely on alternative and often unsafe sources.
Mr. Boateng is therefore appealing to the appropriate authorities and stakeholders to urgently intervene and repair the damaged infrastructure to restore water supply to the community.
