Police Hunt for Suspects Behind Vandalised Student Artworks at Asokwa Interchange
Police in Asokwa in the Ashanti Region have launched a manhunt for individuals who vandalised artistic works at the Asokwa Interchange, currently being decorated by Visual Arts students from selected Senior High Schools.
Over the past week, the students have been displaying their creative talents on structures at the interchange as part of activities marking AshantiFest 2026, an initiative led by Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.
However, several of the artworks have been defaced by unknown persons, with the motive behind the act yet to be established.
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from officials of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly. The Municipal Chief Executive, Amo Kamel, disclosed that security agencies have been tasked to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He added that police will rely on footage from nearby CCTV cameras to aid in their investigations.
Describing the act as unfortunate, Mr Kamel labelled those responsible as “nation wreckers” for destroying the students’ work.
Meanwhile, Dr Amoakohene also condemned the vandalism in a post on his Facebook page, where he alleged that elements within the opposition may be behind the act.
