Officers of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have reportedly searched the residence of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, as part of investigations into alleged irregularities in the award of government-sponsored foreign scholarships.
The development forms part of a broader probe into claims that payments were demanded in exchange for access to state-funded scholarships.
Mr Nkansah’s lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, confirmed the search in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM. He indicated that the officers carried out the exercise without presenting a warrant.
Mr Nkansah had earlier been invited by the NIB to assist with investigations after President John Dramani Mahama directed the agency to examine allegations of misconduct at the Scholarship Secretariat.
His legal team has refuted reports suggesting that he was arrested, describing such claims as inaccurate. According to the lawyers, Mr Nkansah honoured the invitation voluntarily and cooperated fully with investigators by providing relevant information regarding the alleged transactions.
In a statement dated February 3, 2026, the Office of the President characterised the allegations as “serious and of grave public concern” and instructed the NIB to investigate the matter, identify any individuals involved, and submit its findings directly to the President for appropriate action.
