The District Court at Kasoa Akweley has granted bail to 18 individuals arrested in connection with an alleged attack on the Gomoa Nyanyano Palace in the Central Region.
The suspects are facing accusations of causing fear and panic, damaging property, and disturbing the peace at Gomoa Nyanyano.
At their initial court appearance on February 2, 2026, 15 of the suspects were remanded in police custody. However, during their second appearance on Thursday, February 6, 2026, the number of accused persons rose to 18 following the arrest of three additional suspects by the police.
Presiding over the case, Her Worship Ama Adomako-Kwakye granted all 18 accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢60,000 each, with one surety per person. As part of the bail conditions, the accused persons are required to report to the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Station every Monday and Thursday.
The court has adjourned the case to March 12, 2026, for further proceedings.
Speaking after the court session, counsel for the accused persons, Emmanuel Sarfo, rejected claims that his clients are land guards. He explained that their arrest was linked to an alleged breach of a police directive rather than any land-related criminal activity.
Meanwhile, a traditional leader, Nana Banyin Kojo Bondzie, has cautioned the public against describing the accused persons as land guards, warning that anyone who does so could face legal action.
The case continues to attract public attention amid heightened concerns over chieftaincy and land-related tensions in the area.
