The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), along with the Police Officers’ Mess Association of Ghana (POMAB) and the Police Royal Ladies, joined the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, February 2, 2026, to celebrate the traditional Akwasidae festival.
The annual Akwasidae ceremony, a cornerstone of Asante cultural heritage, brings together chiefs, traditional leaders, and dignitaries to pay homage to the Asantehene and honor the ancestors.
During the event, the police delegation participated in the customary rituals, symbolizing the close relationship between the Ghana Police Service and the Asante Kingdom.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II welcomed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies in maintaining peace and public safety.

The visit follows a recent engagement earlier in January 2026, when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II paid a courtesy call to the Ghana Police Service headquarters in Accra. During that visit, he commended the police for their commitment to law enforcement and public service, highlighting the need for continued partnership between the police and traditional authorities in promoting security across the nation.

The Akwasidae festival at Manhyia Palace provided a platform for strengthening ties between the police and the Asante traditional council, reaffirming mutual respect and collaboration for the peace and development of the region.
