The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Eduamoah Okyere Payin, has issued a strong warning to government workers in the Ekumfi District, urging District Chief Executives (DCEs) and traditional authorities to take firm action against any staff who display indiscipline or disregard authority.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Ekumfi Traditional Council and the District Assembly, the Regional Minister stressed that the campaign period is over and governance must now take precedence. Addressing the District Chief Executive, Ishmael Nana Asamoah, he cautioned against leniency.
“You may have campaigned together, but now you are in charge. Do not give anyone room to joke. Make them work,” he stated.
In an interview, Ekow Eduamoah Okyere Payin warned that government workers who believe they are untouchable would be dismissed if reported for insubordination.
“If a DCE gives you an instruction and you refuse to comply, you will be removed,” he emphasised, adding that he is frustrated with workers who undermine government programmes, secretly support the opposition, and remain uncooperative despite a change in government.
He further noted that government workers who openly support the opposition would “leave with them” when they exit office, underscoring the need for loyalty, accountability, and professionalism in public service.
Responding to the warning, the Ekumfi DCE, Ishmael Nana Asamoah, expressed readiness to discipline any government worker who misbehaves within the district.
He highlighted that significant progress has been made within just one year under President John Dramani Mahama’s resetting agenda, citing improvements in health infrastructure, education, road projects, and the renovation of public buildings.
Asamoah assured the Regional Minister that the assembly remains committed to the successful implementation of government policies and revealed plans to launch a 24-hour market in Ekumfi next year.
He appealed to residents and traditional leaders (Nananom) to remain patient, promising that more developmental projects, especially road infrastructure, are underway.
“We are ready to work and bring development to Ekumfi,” he affirmed.
