Ghanaian musician Mzbel has stirred public debate after urging married women to consider leaving their husbands emotional freedom to have multiple women, arguing that such an arrangement could help sustain marriages.
According to the outspoken artiste, Ghanaian men should be allowed to engage in relationships with as many women as they can afford, a practice she believes prevents marital breakdowns rather than causing them.
Mzbel, who is known in private life as Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, disclosed that she personally does not trust a man who remains faithful to only one woman.
She claimed that if her partner does not cheat, she would perceive him as lacking masculinity and sophistication.
“To me, if you don’t cheat, I see you as ‘Jon’. For a man, I believe that you must explore,” she said during a recent radio interview.
The singer further explained that relationships tend to change negatively after couples get married, especially when religion becomes involved.
She argued that while dating allows partners to be more relaxed and accommodating, marriage, particularly church marriage, often comes with restrictions that strain relationships.
“When people are dating, they are comfortable. However, when they go to church and get married, then everything changes. That should not be the case, and the earlier women realize this, the better for them,” Mzbel added.
