President John Mahama is set to swear in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice today, finalising a transition process that began earlier this year.
This follows Parliament’s strong approval of his nomination on November 13, where MPs voted 163 to 69 after an intense vetting session.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on November 10, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledged to safeguard judicial independence, encourage bipartisan cooperation, and improve public access to justice.
His appointment comes after several months of interim leadership, having served as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, following the suspension and eventual removal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
President Mahama nominated him on September 23, 2025, highlighting his extensive judicial career across the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court, as well as his decades of dedicated service on the Bench.
