The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested ten suspects accused of creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The first group of six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were arrested on October 1, 2025, during a targeted operation at Sogakope following sustained intelligence efforts.
According to a police statement dated October 13, 2025, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had developed fraudulent websites and social media pages imitating popular food outlets such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.
Victims who placed orders through these fake platforms were reportedly asked to make advance payments via mobile money, but never received their food.
Further investigations showed that some victims also lost funds from their mobile money wallets and bank accounts, as the suspects allegedly gained unauthorized access under the guise of assisting them with payments.
Digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities were seized and are currently undergoing forensic examination.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of four additional suspects, including the alleged ringleader Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke, along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, from their hideout at Haatso in Accra on October 12, 2025.
Police retrieved twelve mobile phones from the suspects, which are also being preserved for forensic analysis.
All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
