President John Dramani Mahama, together with his wife, First Lady Mrs Lordina Mahama, has arrived in Beijing for a state visit at the invitation of the Chinese leader, President Xi Jinping.
President Mahama, who is the African Union Champion for Gender and Development Issues, will be participating in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, scheduled to be held from 13th to 14th October.
The meeting, which is being co-hosted by China and UN Women, is expected to reaffirm global commitments made during the Fourth World Conference on Women, 30 years ago, aimed at promoting women empowerment.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, organised by the UN and held in Beijing.
While in Beijing to champion women’s empowerment, President Mahama and his delegation would focus on strengthening Ghanaian ties and investment.
Additionally, President Mahama would hold discussions with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping and with the Premier of the State Council of China, Mr Li Qiang.
He would also meet with Chinese business leaders and host a Presidential Investment Forum, expected to bring Ghanaian businesses, their Chinese counterparts and investors together to explore opportunities in Ghana.

He is expected to visit Fujian Province to meet businesses with a presence in Ghana.
These engagements is expected to strengthen the long-standing partnership between Ghana and China and promote greater cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The President’s entourage also included Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister; Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection; Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways; and Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the Deputy Minister for Finance.
The rest are Dr Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President; Madam Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson and Nana Yaa Gyantuah, Presidential Staffer.
