Drivers plying the Kojo-Oku–New Nyanyano road in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have expressed grave concern over the poor state of their road and are appealing to authorities to intervene and fix it urgently.
According to the drivers, the bad road, which is riddled with potholes and erosion, has made transportation difficult and uncomfortable for both drivers and passengers.
They also expressed disappointment in their Member of Parliament, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, accusing him of neglecting them after winning the elections.
“The MP promised to fix the road after the elections, but since he won, he has never set foot here,” one of the drivers lamented.
In an interview with Oyerepa news reporter, Nana Ansah, some drivers appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure that the road is repaired, since, according to them, their MP has shown no interest in addressing the issue.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the GPRTU Kojo-Oku Pentecost Branch, Emmanuel Narh Osipli, explained that the poor condition of the road has severely affected their work, as many drivers are now reluctant to operate on that route, especially at night.
“When it rains, only okada riders use the road, and they charge higher fares because of the risk and poor condition of the road,” he noted.
The drivers are therefore calling on the government and relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate the Kojo-Oku–New Nyanyano road to ease transportation challenges and improve livelihoods in the area.
